Exodus 36:32

Listen to this article

“And five bars for the boards of the other side of the tabernacle, and five bars for the boards of the tabernacle for the sides westward.”

Context:The book of Exodus is the second book of the Bible and continues the narrative of the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. In this specific chapter, we find the account of the construction of the tabernacle, which was a portable and temporary dwelling place for God’s presence among the Israelites during their wilderness wanderings. The tabernacle was a significant and highly symbolic structure that served as a place of worship and sacrifice.

In Exodus 36:32, the focus is on the construction of the tabernacle’s framework. The verse mentions “bars” that were used for the boards of the tabernacle on the sides westward. These bars were likely long, horizontal rods or poles made of wood, serving as cross-braces to support the boards that formed the walls of the tabernacle.

Spiritual Lessons:

  • Obedience and Faithfulness:The construction of the tabernacle required meticulous adherence to God’s specific instructions. The craftsmen, Bezalel and Oholiab, along with others who were gifted in craftsmanship, followed God’s commands with great precision. This reminds us of the importance of obedience to God’s Word and the faithfulness to fulfill His purposes.
  • Cooperation and Unity:The construction of the tabernacle was a collaborative effort involving various skilled individuals from the community. They worked together harmoniously, each contributing their unique talents for the greater purpose of building God’s dwelling place. This teaches us about the value of unity within the body of Christ and how the Church can achieve great things when its members work together in harmony.
  • The Symbolism of the Tabernacle:The tabernacle itself holds significant spiritual symbolism. It served as a foreshadowing of Christ, with various elements representing aspects of His redemptive work. For instance, the structure of the tabernacle reflected the steps one had to take to approach God, emphasizing the need for purity and sacrifice for sin. As we study the tabernacle’s details, it deepens our understanding of God’s plan of salvation through Jesus Christ.
  • God’s Dwelling Among His People:The tabernacle was a place where God’s presence dwelled among the Israelites. This illustrates God’s desire to be close to His people, to communicate with them, and guide them. Today, we have a similar promise that God’s Holy Spirit dwells within believers (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), reminding us that we are the temple of God, and He desires an intimate relationship with us.
  • The Importance of Holiness:The tabernacle was constructed with great care and attention to detail, emphasizing the importance of holiness and reverence in approaching God. It was a sacred space, and only designated individuals had access to its innermost areas. This serves as a reminder for us to approach God with a heart of humility, respect, and holiness.

Conclusion:Exodus 36:32 may seem like a simple verse describing the construction of the tabernacle, but it carries profound spiritual lessons. As we explore the details of the tabernacle, we encounter God’s desire to be in fellowship with His people and the importance of obedience, unity, and holiness in our walk with Him. This study encourages us to seek a deeper understanding of God’s Word and the significance of the historical events recorded in the Bible.
