Exodus Chapter 18

Summery

Exodus 18 tells the story of Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, who visits him in the wilderness. Jethro observes Moses judging the people’s disputes from morning till evening and advises him to delegate his responsibilities to capable leaders. He suggests that Moses appoint trustworthy individuals to oversee smaller groups, while he himself focuses on handling the more challenging cases.

Moses heeds Jethro’s advice and implements a hierarchical system of judges. Jethro departs to his own land, but not before acknowledging the greatness of the Lord and offering sacrifices in His honor. The chapter concludes with Jethro bidding farewell to Moses and returning to his homeland.
