Exodus Chapter 24

Summery

In Exodus 24, Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders of Israel ascend Mount Sinai to worship the Lord. Moses tells the people all the words and laws of the Lord, and they pledge their obedience. Moses then writes down the covenant and builds an altar at the foot of the mountain. He sets up twelve pillars to represent the twelve tribes of Israel.

Moses takes some of the blood from the sacrificial offerings and sprinkles it on the people, declaring it as the blood of the covenant between God and Israel. They respond with affirmation and commitment to follow God’s commands. Afterward, Moses and the elders go up the mountain and have a remarkable encounter with God. They see a glorious vision of God’s presence, described as a pavement of sapphire, and yet, they eat and drink in His presence.

Moses receives the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments, written by the finger of God. He spends forty days and forty nights on the mountain, in the presence of God, during which time God provides him with detailed instructions for building the Tabernacle.
