In Exodus 34, God commands Moses to carve out two new stone tablets so that He can rewrite the Ten Commandments, replacing the ones that were shattered in anger. Moses ascends Mount Sinai and encounters the Lord, who proclaims His name and attributes of mercy, justice, and forgiveness. Moses bows down and asks God to forgive the Israelites and accompany them on their journey to the Promised Land. God establishes a covenant with Moses, reiterating the importance of not making alliances with the people living in Canaan or worshiping their gods. He emphasizes the observance of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the redemption of the firstborn, and the requirement to offer sacrifices during specific times of the year. Moses spends 40 days and nights on the mountain, during which his face radiates with divine glory whenever he converses with God. When Moses returns to the Israelites, they are astonished by the luminous glow on his face, leading him to veil it while speaking with them.
