Exodus Chapter 5

Summery

In Exodus 5, Moses and Aaron confront Pharaoh, requesting him to let the Israelites go into the wilderness to hold a feast for their God. Pharaoh dismisses their plea and denies acknowledging their God. Instead, he accuses the Israelites of laziness and imposes heavier burdens on them, demanding that they continue to meet their brick production quotas without being provided with straw.

Moses speaks to the Israelite foremen and realizes that they are disheartened by the increased workload and mistreatment. Moses then goes before the Lord, questioning why He has allowed the Israelites to suffer even more since his intervention. The Lord reassures Moses of His plan to redeem His people, and Moses is instructed to go back to Pharaoh and demand the release of the Israelites.

The chapter ends with Moses expressing his frustration and questioning God’s intentions, as Pharaoh’s response to their plea has only increased the suffering of the Israelites.
