Genesis 18:14

Listen to this article

“Is any thing too hard for the Lord? At the time appointed I will return unto thee, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

This verse is part of the narrative in Genesis where God appears to Abraham and informs him that Sarah, his wife, will have a son.

At this point, Abraham and Sarah were old and well beyond the age of childbearing. Sarah, upon hearing this, laughed to herself because she considered herself too old to bear children.

“Is any thing too hard for the Lord?” serves as a rhetorical question, emphasizing that nothing is too difficult or impossible for God. It serves to reinforce the fact that God’s power and abilities transcend human limitations.

Throughout the Bible, there are numerous instances where God demonstrates His unlimited power and ability to accomplish the seemingly impossible. From creating the world out of nothing (Genesis 1:1) to parting the Red Sea (Exodus 14:21-22) and raising Jesus from the dead (Matthew 28:6), the Bible repeatedly affirms God’s unlimited power and ability.

Context:God’s promise to Abraham and Sarah serves as a reminder that God’s plans and purposes are not limited by human circumstances or human understanding. Sarah’s skepticism and laughter upon hearing the promise of having a child were understandable from a human perspective, given their old age. However, God’s response affirms that His power is not bound by human limitations.

This verse also carries a broader message for believers today. It encourages us to trust in God’s power and faithfulness, even when faced with seemingly impossible situations. It reminds us that God is capable of bringing about His promises, even when circumstances appear to be contrary.

Conclusion:Genesis 18:14 highlights the omnipotence of God and serves as a reminder that nothing is too difficult for Him. It encourages us to trust in God’s power and faithfulness, even when faced with seemingly impossible circumstances, and reminds us that God’s plans and purposes are not limited by human understanding or limitations.
