Listen to this article

"And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, Arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city."

Genesis 19:15 recounts the events that occurred just before the destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. This passage highlights the urgency and gravity of the situation, as well as the divine intervention that took place in order to rescue Lot and his family.

The Morning Arises:The verse begins by stating, "And when the morning arose." This suggests that the previous events, including the visitation of the angels to Lot and their encounter with the wicked men of the city, took place during the night.

The Angels’ Command:The angels hastened Lot, urging him to take his wife and two daughters and leave the city. Their urgency emphasizes the imminent danger that awaited Sodom and Gomorrah. The angels were sent by God to deliver Lot and his family from the impending destruction.

The Reason for Escape:The angels warned Lot, "lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city." This implies that the imminent destruction was not only a result of the wickedness of the city but also a consequence of the divine judgment that was about to be unleashed upon it. Lot and his family were instructed to flee to avoid being caught up in the punishment of the wicked.

This verse reveals the mercy and grace of God as He sends His angels to rescue Lot and his family from the impending destruction. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of living in a society marked by widespread wickedness and unrepentant sin.

The story of Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19 highlights the importance of righteousness and obedience to God. It serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of immorality and the need to heed God’s warnings. Additionally, it emphasizes God’s faithfulness to deliver His people from harm when they trust and obey Him.

Overall, Genesis 19:15 teaches us about God’s mercy, His judgment against sin, and the importance of heeding His warnings.
