Listen to this article

“Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.”

Genesis 49:21 is part of Jacob’s blessings to his twelve sons, also known as the blessings of Jacob or the blessings of Israel. In this verse, Jacob specifically addresses his sixth son, Naphtali:and describes his characteristics and future.

Naphtali is a hind let loose:The term “hind” refers to a female deer or a gazelle. It symbolises gracefulness, swiftness, and agility. When Jacob describes Naphtali as a “hind let loose,” he portrays him as one who is free and unrestricted. This suggests that Naphtali would enjoy liberty, freedom, and flexibility in his endeavours.

He giveth goodly words:This phrase emphasises Naphtali’s ability to express himself eloquently and speak with charm and wisdom. It suggests that he will have a gift for persuasive and inspiring speech, enabling him to communicate effectively and leave a positive impact on others.

It’s important to note that Jacob’s blessings to his sons not only described their individual characteristics but also prophesied about their future tribes and territories within the land of Israel. These blessings serve as both a personal affirmation and a glimpse into their future roles and destinies.

Additionally, when examining biblical verses, it can be beneficial to explore various translations and consult commentaries or study resources to gain a deeper understanding of the text. Different translations and interpretations may shed additional light on the verse, providing a more comprehensive perspective.

Overall:Genesis 49:21 highlights Naphtali’s freedom and agility, as well as his ability to speak with wisdom and grace. This verse encourages us to appreciate the diverse gifts and strengths that God bestows upon individuals, reminding us that each person has a unique purpose and contribution to make in the world.
