Genesis 7:15

Listen to this article

“And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.”

This verse is a part of the narrative describing the events of the great flood and Noah’s obedience in building the ark.

To understand the significance of Genesis 7:15, it is important to examine the broader context of the story.

In Genesis, God observes the wickedness of humanity and decides to bring a flood to destroy all flesh on the earth. However, Noah found favour in God’s eyes because of his righteousness, and God instructed him to build an ark to preserve himself, his family, and representatives of every kind of animal.

Genesis 7:15 specifically refers to the moment when all the animals, as commanded by God, entered the ark.

The verse emphasizes that the animals entered in pairs, “two and two,” representing male and female, ensuring the continuity of their respective species.

The phrase “wherein is the breath of life” highlights that only creatures possessing the breath of life were to be saved.

This emphasizes that God’s intention was to preserve the diversity of life and ensure the continuation of each species.

This verse not only emphasizes God’s care for all living creatures but also reveals the order and precision with which God executes His plans.

By requiring the animals to enter the ark in pairs, God ensured the procreation and repopulation of the earth after the flood.

Furthermore, this verse also serves as a reminder of Noah’s faithfulness and obedience to God’s instructions.

Despite the magnitude of the task and the ridicule he may have faced, Noah followed God’s commands precisely, fulfilling his role as a faithful servant of God.

The story of Noah and the ark serves as a powerful reminder of God’s judgment, mercy, and faithfulness.

It illustrates God’s desire to protect and preserve life and demonstrates the importance of obedience and righteousness.

Christians often see in this account a foreshadowing of salvation through Jesus Christ, as Noah and his family found safety in the ark, just as believers find salvation in Christ.

In summary, Genesis 7:15 highlights the obedient entrance of animals into the ark in pairs, underscoring God’s desire to preserve life and ensure the continuation of different species. It also emphasizes Noah’s faithfulness and serves as a reminder of God’s judgment and mercy.
