Genesis Chapter 3

Summery
Genesis 3 tells the story of the Fall of Man and the consequences of Adam and Eve’s disobedience to God. The chapter begins with the introduction of the serpent, who tempts Eve by questioning God’s command not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Eve succumbs to temptation and eats the fruit, also offering it to Adam, who also eats.
Upon eating the forbidden fruit, their eyes are opened, and they realize their nakedness. Feeling shame, they sew fig leaves together to cover themselves. As God walks through the garden, Adam and Eve hide from Him. God calls out to them and they admit their disobedience.
God pronounces judgment upon the serpent, foretelling its eventual defeat by the offspring of the woman. He then curses the ground, foretelling the toil and hardship that Adam will face in his work. God also reveals the pain of childbirth that Eve will experience, as well as the subordination of women to men.
Finally, God expels Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, placing cherubim and a flaming sword to guard the way to the tree of life.
