Genesis Chapter 45

Summery

Genesis 45 tells the remarkable story of Joseph, who was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers but eventually rose to a position of power in Egypt. In this chapter, Joseph reveals his true identity to his brothers who had come to Egypt seeking food during a time of famine. Overwhelmed with emotion, Joseph orders everyone except his brothers to leave the room, and he weeps aloud. He declares to his brothers that he is indeed their long-lost brother Joseph, whom they had betrayed years ago.

Joseph reassures his brothers, telling them not to be distressed or angry with themselves for what they had done. He explains that God had a greater plan in motion. Joseph reveals that it was God who sent him to Egypt ahead of them to preserve their lives during the severe famine. He urges his brothers to return to their father, Jacob, and bring him to Egypt, where they will live in prosperity.

Joseph then embraces his brothers, weeping with joy. Pharaoh also hears of the reunion and instructs Joseph to provide his family with wagons to transport them to Egypt. Joseph lavishes gifts upon his brothers, giving each of them new garments, but he gives Benjamin, his youngest brother, even more gifts as a sign of his deep love for him.
