Hosea Chapter 7

Summery

Hosea 7 speaks of Israel’s sinful ways and their refusal to turn back to God. The chapter begins with a depiction of their spiritual decay, as God observes their dishonesty and immorality. Despite His numerous attempts to lead them on the right path, they persist in their rebellion. Their leaders are corrupt, and the people indulge in idolatry and wickedness.

God’s heart is grieved by Israel’s actions, and He is angered by their lack of repentance. He recalls their history of unfaithfulness, from their exodus from Egypt to their refusal to seek His help in times of trouble. They have become a nation that deceives others, relying on alliances with foreign nations instead of trusting in God.

In their pursuit of fleeting pleasures, Israel has forgotten the Lord and His commandments. They sow the seeds of destruction and will reap the consequences of their actions. Despite their dire situation, they do not turn to God for deliverance, but instead continue to seek assistance from foreign powers.

The chapter concludes with a lamentation over Israel’s tragic state and their refusal to seek God’s forgiveness. Their stubbornness and unwillingness to repent will ultimately lead to their downfall.
