Isaiah 17 is a chapter in the Book of Isaiah that contains a prophecy concerning Damascus, the capital city of Syria. The chapter begins with a warning that Damascus will become a heap of ruins and be abandoned. The cities of Aroer, a place of refuge, will also be deserted. The Israelites are urged to look to God, their Creator, instead of relying on man-made structures.
The prophecy states that a remnant of Israel will be left, just as when crops are harvested and only a few gleanings remain. This remnant will turn to God and reject their idolatrous ways. The chapter concludes with a declaration that Israel will not trust in their fortified cities or idols, but will ultimately turn to the Lord.
