Jeremiah Chapter 41

Summery

Jeremiah 41 in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible describes the aftermath of the assassination of Gedaliah, who had been appointed by the Babylonians to govern the remnant of Judah. Ishmael, a member of the royal family, conspires with ten other men and kills Gedaliah during a meal. After the murder, Ishmael proceeds to murder all the Judeans who were with Gedaliah, as well as the Chaldean soldiers stationed in Mizpah.

Following this gruesome act, Ishmael takes the remaining captives, including the daughters of the king, and intends to go to the Ammonites. However, Johanan and his armed men discover the situation and pursue Ishmael, rescuing the captives and recovering the plunder he had taken.

Upon their rescue, Johanan and the people fear retribution from the Babylonians due to the assassination of Gedaliah. They decide to seek refuge in Egypt, believing it will protect them from both Babylonian and local threats. However, Jeremiah warns them against going to Egypt, prophesying that disaster awaits them there.
