In Jonah 3, God gives Jonah a second chance to deliver His message to the city of Nineveh. Jonah obeys and goes to Nineveh, a great city. He proclaims that in forty days, the city will be overthrown. The people of Nineveh, from the greatest to the least, believe Jonah’s message and repent. They fast, put on sackcloth, and turn from their evil ways. The king of Nineveh hears of this and joins the repentance, proclaiming a decree that everyone, including the animals, must fast, cry out to God, and turn away from their wickedness. God sees their genuine repentance and relents from the disaster He had planned to bring upon them.
