Joshua 11:15

Listen to this article

"As the Lord commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the Lord commanded Moses."

Context:Joshua 11 describes the conquest of the northern kings and the fulfilment of God’s promise to give the land of Canaan to the Israelites. In this verse, Joshua is portrayed as a faithful leader who carried out the commands of both God and Moses.

Obedience to God’s Commands:The verse emphasises the obedience of Joshua and his adherence to the instructions given by God through Moses. It highlights Joshua’s faithfulness in following through with the tasks assigned to him without leaving anything undone. As believers, we can learn from Joshua’s example of wholehearted obedience to God’s commands, recognising that obedience is a vital aspect of our relationship with God.

Continuity of God’s Plan:The verse also highlights the continuity of God’s plan from one generation to the next. Moses had received commands from the Lord, and he faithfully passed them on to Joshua. Joshua, in turn, obeyed these commands and ensured that nothing was left undone. This demonstrates the importance of passing down spiritual wisdom and instructions to future generations, preserving the integrity of God’s plan and ensuring its continuity.

Faithfulness and Trust in God:Joshua’s obedience reflects his faithfulness and trust in God. He trusted that God’s commands were for the good of the Israelites and faithfully carried them out, even in the face of great challenges. This verse encourages us to have unwavering faith and trust in God’s instructions and promises, knowing that His plans are perfect and His ways are trustworthy.

Application:As we reflect on Joshua 11:15, we can ask ourselves the following questions:

  • How obedient am I to God’s commands? Do I actively seek to follow His instructions in all areas of my life?
  • Am I passing down spiritual wisdom and teachings to the next generation? Do I recognise the importance of preserving and sharing God’s truths?
  • Do I demonstrate unwavering faith and trust in God, even when faced with challenges and uncertainties?
  • How can I apply the principles of obedience, continuity, faithfulness, and trust in my own life?

Remember, the ultimate goal of Bible study is not just acquiring knowledge but also allowing it to transform our lives as we apply God’s Word to our thoughts, attitudes, and actions.
