Joshua 2:24

Listen to this article

"And they said unto Joshua, Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land; for even all the inhabitants of the country do faint because of us."

Context and Background:Joshua 2:24 is part of the narrative of the spies that Joshua sent to Jericho before the Israelites entered the Promised Land. The two spies, whose lives were protected by Rahab the harlot, returned to Joshua and reported the outcome of their mission. This verse contains their testimony and declaration of God’s faithfulness.

The Spies’ Report:Upon their return, the spies informed Joshua that the Lord had indeed delivered the land of Jericho into their hands. They testified that all the inhabitants of the land were terrified because of the reputation of the Israelites and their God. The report brought encouragement and confidence to Joshua and the people of Israel as they prepared to face their first major battle in conquering the Promised Land.

God’s Faithfulness:The spies’ declaration emphasizes the faithfulness of the Lord in fulfilling His promises to His people. The phrase "Truly the LORD hath delivered into our hands all the land" reveals their conviction that God had already given them victory, even before the battle had taken place. It demonstrates their unwavering trust in God’s power and His ability to fulfill His word.

The Power of God’s Presence:The spies’ report reveals the impact of the presence of God among His people. The inhabitants of the land were overwhelmed with fear because they recognized the mighty hand of God upon the Israelites. It demonstrates that the power of God’s presence goes before His people and causes their enemies to faint and lose heart.

Application:

  • Trust in God’s faithfulness:Just as the spies trusted in God’s promise and faithfulness, we are called to trust in Him in every situation. God is faithful to His word, and we can rely on His promises.
  • Recognize the power of God’s presence:When we walk in God’s ways and invite His presence into our lives, we can experience His power at work. His presence brings peace, protection, and victory in our battles.
  • Boldness and courage:The spies’ report instilled confidence in Joshua and the Israelites. Likewise, we should be encouraged by the testimonies of God’s faithfulness in our lives and step forward boldly, knowing that God goes before us.

Joshua 2:24 serves as a reminder of God’s faithfulness, the power of His presence, and the importance of trust and courage in our walk with Him.
