Joshua Chapter 8

Summery

In Joshua 8, the Lord commands Joshua to gather the Israelites to take the city of Ai. Joshua devises a strategy where a portion of the Israelite army would pretend to flee from Ai, drawing the men of Ai out of the city. Meanwhile, the main army would set the city on fire. Following God’s instructions, Joshua carries out the plan, and the ambush succeeds in luring the men of Ai away. The city is then captured, and its king is hanged on a tree until evening.

The Israelites take the spoils of the city as the Lord had commanded, sparing nothing for themselves. Joshua builds an altar on Mount Ebal, following the Law of Moses, and offers burnt offerings and peace offerings. He writes a copy of the Law of Moses on stones, in the presence of all Israel, emphasizing the importance of obedience to God’s commands.
