Judges Chapter 17

Summery

In Judges 17, a man named Micah from the hill country of Ephraim confessed to his mother that he had stolen 1,100 shekels of silver. Surprisingly, his mother forgave him and dedicated the silver to make an idol, crafting it with a silversmith. Micah then set up a shrine in his house, making an ephod and household gods, and consecrated one of his sons to serve as his personal priest.

Later, a young Levite from Bethlehem named Jonathan passed through Micah’s town, and Micah persuaded him to stay and become his priest. Jonathan agreed, and Micah appointed him as his priest, providing him food, clothing, and shelter. Micah felt confident that having a Levite as his personal priest would bring him favor with God.
