Leviticus 26:11

Listen to this article

"And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you."

This verse is part of a larger passage known as the Blessings of Obedience, where God outlines the rewards and blessings that the Israelites would receive if they faithfully followed His commandments and statutes.

Tabernacle and God’s Presence:The first part of the verse mentions God setting His tabernacle among the Israelites. The tabernacle was a portable sanctuary constructed by the Israelites in the wilderness. It housed the Ark of the Covenant and served as a place of worship and meeting with God. This verse signifies that if the people remained obedient to God, He would dwell in their midst, signifying His presence and favour.

God’s Acceptance and Approval:The latter part of the verse states, "my soul shall not abhor you." This phrase conveys that God would not reject or despise the Israelites if they remained faithful to Him. It highlights His acceptance and approval of His chosen people, emphasising His desire for a close relationship with them.

Overall, Leviticus 26:11 portrays God’s promise to dwell among His people and to accept and cherish them. It emphasises the importance of obedience and faithfulness in maintaining a meaningful relationship with God. While this verse specifically addresses the Israelites during the time of Moses, its principles can be applied more broadly to the idea that when we honour and obey God, He promises to be present with us and accept us as His own.

It’s worth noting that the New Testament teaches that through Jesus Christ, believers are now the dwelling place of God through the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19). This means that by accepting Jesus as our Saviour, we can experience a personal and intimate relationship with God, as He dwells within us.

Remember to consider the context and continue exploring the surrounding verses and chapters to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the passage and its significance within the broader biblical narrative.
