Listen to this article

“And over the host of the tribe of the children of Gad was Eliasaph the son of Deuel.”

Context:The book of Numbers is the fourth book in the Old Testament and focuses on the Israelites’ journey from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land. It contains a detailed account of their wilderness wanderings, laws, and instructions from God.

The Tribe of Gad:In Numbers 10:20, we encounter the mention of the tribe of Gad. Gad was one of the twelve tribes of Israel and was descended from Jacob’s son, Gad.

The tribe of Gad received their allotted inheritance in the eastern part of the Promised Land, on the other side of the Jordan River.

Eliasaph, the Leader:In this verse, Eliasaph is identified as the leader or prince of the tribe of Gad. He was the son of Deuel.

The appointment of leaders for each tribe was significant as they played a crucial role in leading and organizing their respective tribes during the Israelites’ journey.

Leadership and Organization:Throughout the book of Numbers, we see the importance of leadership and organization among the Israelites. God instructed Moses to appoint leaders for each tribe to assist in the management of the people, ensuring order, and overseeing various responsibilities. These leaders had to lead their tribes in battles, make decisions, and maintain discipline within the community.
