Numbers 10:35

Posted on 6 December 2023
Listen to this article

“And it came to pass, when the ark set forward, that Moses said, Rise up, Lord, and let thine enemies be scattered; and let them that hate thee flee before thee.”

Context:Numbers 10:35 is part of the account of the Israelites’ journey in the wilderness. In this verse, the ark of the covenant, which symbolized the presence of God, is being carried forward as the people of Israel move from one place to another.

The Ark of the Covenant:The ark of the covenant was a sacred chest made of acacia wood overlaid with gold. It contained the tablets of the Ten Commandments, Aaron’s rod, and a jar of manna (Hebrews 9:4). It was considered the most holy object in the tabernacle and represented the dwelling place of God among His people.

Acknowledging God’s Presence:When the ark set forward, Moses, as the leader of the Israelites, called upon the Lord, saying, “Rise up, Lord.” This act of prayer and invocation acknowledged God’s presence and sought His guidance and protection as they embarked on their journey.

Scattering Enemies:Moses prayed for the scattering of God’s enemies and the fleeing of those who hated Him. This demonstrates the recognition that the Israelites’ victory and protection came from the Lord alone. It expresses the dependence of the Israelites on God’s intervention in battles and conflicts they might face along their journey.

Spiritual Application:Numbers 10:35 can be applied to the lives of believers today. It reminds us to acknowledge God’s presence in our lives and seek His guidance and protection as we navigate our own journeys. We are reminded to rely on Him in times of trouble, entrusting our battles to Him and acknowledging that He is the ultimate source of victory.

God’s Sovereignty:This verse also highlights God’s sovereignty and His power over His enemies. It affirms that those who oppose God and His people will be scattered and flee before Him. It reminds us that our God is mighty and will ultimately triumph over all opposition.
