Numbers 14:21

Listen to this article

“But as truly as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.”

This verse is part of a larger context found in Numbers 14, which recounts the story of the Israelites’ rebellion against God after receiving the report from the spies who explored the Promised Land. In this chapter, the people of Israel express their fear and lack of faith, doubting God’s ability to give them victory over the inhabitants of the land.

In Numbers 14:21, amidst the Israelites’ rebellion and God’s subsequent response, we find a profound statement about the nature and glory of the Lord. Here are some key points to consider in this Bible study:

God’s affirmation of His existence:The verse begins with a powerful declaration, “But as truly as I live.” This phrase emphasises God’s eternal existence and His faithfulness to His promises. It serves as a reminder that God is alive and actively involved in the affairs of His creation.

The earth filled with the glory of the LORD:God declares that “all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD.” The term “glory” refers to God’s radiant presence, His majesty, and His splendour. This verse reveals God’s ultimate plan for the whole earth to be filled with His glory, signifying His sovereignty and authority over all creation.

God’s desire for His glory to be known:Throughout the Bible, we see God’s desire for His glory to be revealed and recognised by His creation. His glory is manifest in His mighty acts, His character, and His redemptive plan. The fulfilment of this verse speaks of a future time when God’s glory will be fully realised and acknowledged by all people.

Application for believers:As believers, this verse reminds us of the importance of recognising and proclaiming God’s glory in our lives and in the world. We are called to reflect His glory through our words, actions, and obedience to His commands. By living in a way that honours God, we participate in the fulfilment of this promise, as the earth is impacted by His glory through our testimony.

In conclusion, Numbers 14:21 conveys God’s declaration that all the earth will be filled with His glory. It emphasises His eternal existence, His desire for His glory to be known, and the significance of believers in reflecting His glory. As we study and meditate on this verse, may it inspire us to live in a way that brings honour and glory to our Heavenly Father.
