Listen to this article

“And when we cried unto the LORD, he heard our voice and sent an angel, and hath brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the uttermost of thy border.”

Context:The book of Numbers recounts the events that took place during the Israelites’ journey from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land. In this particular passage, the Israelites, led by Moses, are in the wilderness of Zin, specifically at a place called Kadesh.

The Israelites’ cry to the LORD:The verse begins with the Israelites crying out to the LORD. This refers to a time when the Israelites faced challenges or danger and called upon the Lord for help and deliverance. It is a reminder of the Israelites’ dependence on God and their acknowledgment of His ability to rescue them from their troubles.

God’s response:The passage states that God heard their voice. It highlights God’s attentiveness and compassion towards His people when they call upon Him. In response to their cry for help, God sent an angel to aid them. The sending of an angel demonstrates God’s involvement and intervention in their lives.

Deliverance from Egypt:The verse mentions that the angel brought the Israelites forth out of Egypt. This refers to the Exodus, the pivotal event in Israelite history when God liberated them from slavery in Egypt under the leadership of Moses. It serves as a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises and rescuing His people from oppression.

Arrival at Kadesh:The verse concludes by stating that the Israelites were in Kadesh, a city located at the border of the Promised Land. Kadesh was a significant location in the Israelites’ journey, and it marked a stage in their progress towards the land God had promised to give them.

Lessons from Numbers 20:16:

The importance of crying out to God:The Israelites’ cry to the LORD reveals the significance of turning to God in times of trouble. It teaches us to rely on Him, seek His guidance, and trust in His ability to help us overcome challenges.

God hears and responds:The verse assures us that God hears the cries of His people. It demonstrates His faithfulness and willingness to come to our aid when we call upon Him in genuine faith and humility.

God’s deliverance and faithfulness:The mention of God bringing the Israelites out of Egypt serves as a powerful reminder of God’s deliverance and faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. It encourages us to trust in His faithfulness throughout our own journey of life.

By studying this verse and reflecting on its context and lessons, we can gain a deeper understanding of God’s character, His interaction with His people, and the significance of seeking Him in our own lives.
