Numbers 22:15

Posted on 29 December 2023
Listen to this article

“And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honourable than they.”

Context:In Numbers 22, we find the story of Balak, the king of Moab, who was concerned about the Israelites’ presence in the region. Balak saw the strength and victories of the Israelites and feared that they would overwhelm his kingdom. In an attempt to protect his land, he decided to seek the help of a diviner named Balaam.

Balak’s Persistence:Balak had already sent messengers to Balaam, but their initial attempt to convince him to curse the Israelites failed. Undeterred, Balak sent more distinguished princes to Balaam, hoping to persuade him to cooperate.

Lesson: Balak’s persistence can serve as a reminder of how the enemy seeks to hinder God’s plans. When we stand for righteousness and pursue God’s will, we may encounter opposition and challenges. However, we should not be discouraged but remain steadfast in our faith and commitment to God.

The Honorable Princes:Balak sent princes who held higher positions and possessed greater authority than the previous messengers. These individuals were likely esteemed in society, which may have added weight to their mission.

Lesson: Balak’s decision to send more honorable princes emphasizes the enemy’s cunning tactics. Sometimes, the enemy will use influential or respected individuals to try to persuade us away from God’s purpose. We must be discerning and steadfast in our commitment to follow God’s Word, regardless of the persuasions of those who hold influence or prestige.

God’s Sovereignty:While Balak was making his plans to secure Balaam’s cooperation, it is important to note that God had already made it clear to Balaam that he should not go with Balak’s messengers or curse the Israelites (Numbers 22:12). God’s purpose and will supersede any human plans or desires.

Lesson: God’s sovereignty remains constant in the midst of human schemes. Even when others may try to manipulate or pressure us into going against God’s will, we should remember that His plans for our lives cannot be thwarted. We must seek His guidance and obey His commands, even when faced with tempting offers or influential individuals.

Overall, Numbers 22:15 highlights Balak’s persistence in seeking Balaam’s assistance and the enemy’s attempts to hinder God’s plans. It also reminds us of the importance of staying firm in our faith, being discerning when facing influential individuals, and recognizing God’s sovereignty in all circumstances.
