Numbers 28:15

Listen to this article

“And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto the Lord shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.”

Context:The book of Numbers is the fourth book of the Bible and it focuses on the Israelites’ journey from Mount Sinai to the Promised Land. It contains various laws and regulations given by God to the people through Moses. In Numbers 28, God provides instructions regarding the daily offerings and the offerings for special occasions, such as the Sabbath and the appointed feasts.

Daily Offerings:In Numbers 28:1-8, God commands the Israelites to offer daily burnt offerings in the morning and in the evening. These were known as the continual burnt offerings, signifying the regular worship and dedication to God. These offerings were to be presented without fail.

Additional Offerings:Numbers 28:9-10 outlines the additional offerings to be made on the Sabbath day, which were double the offerings of a regular day. This highlighted the importance of the Sabbath as a holy day of rest and worship.

The Sin Offering:Numbers 28:15 specifically addresses the sin offering to be made alongside the continual burnt offering. The sin offering was a sacrifice made for the atonement of sins committed unintentionally or unintentionally by the people. It was a way for the Israelites to seek forgiveness and restoration of their relationship with God.

Symbolism and Spiritual Lessons:The sin offering of a goat was an integral part of the sacrificial system in the Old Testament. It foreshadowed the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ, who would become the perfect and final sin offering for all humanity. Through His sacrifice, Jesus provided redemption and forgiveness for sins, enabling believers to be reconciled to God.

Application:While the sacrificial system is no longer practised in the same manner today, the principle of seeking forgiveness and reconciliation with God remains relevant. As Christians, we recognise Jesus Christ as the ultimate and perfect sacrifice for our sins. We can approach God with confidence, confessing our sins and seeking His forgiveness, knowing that Jesus has already paid the price for our redemption.

In summary, Numbers 28:15 highlights the sin offering to be made in addition to the continual burnt offering. This verse reminds us of the importance of seeking forgiveness for our sins and points to Jesus Christ as the ultimate sin offering who brings redemption and restoration to our relationship with God.
