Numbers 31:5

Posted on 29 February 2024
Listen to this article

“And there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.”

Numbers 31:5 is a verse from the book of Numbers in the Old Testament. In this verse, we see the context of the Israelites preparing for war against the Midianites. The Israelites were preparing to avenge the Lord’s vengeance upon the Midianites because they had caused the Israelites to worship the gods of Baal Peor and led them into immorality and idolatry.

This verse describes the organization of the Israelite army for this particular battle. From each of the twelve tribes of Israel, a thousand men were chosen to be armed and ready for war. This amounted to a total of twelve thousand men. The verse highlights the unity and cohesion among the tribes as they united for a common purpose.

The inclusion of a thousand men from each tribe shows that this was not a small-scale operation. It demonstrates the seriousness and magnitude of the battle they were about to face. The selection of such a significant number of warriors from each tribe emphasizes the importance of their mission and the strength of their resolve to carry out God’s command.

This verse serves as a reminder of the military might and organisation of the Israelites, as well as their obedience to God’s instructions. It also illustrates God’s faithfulness in equipping His people for the challenges they faced.

Conclusion:By studying this verse, we can draw lessons about the importance of unity, obedience, and being prepared for the tasks that God sets before us. It reminds us to be diligent in our efforts and to trust in God’s provision and guidance as we face the battles and challenges of life.
