“And they departed from Kibroth-hattaavah, and encamped at Hazeroth.”
Context:The book of Numbers is the fourth book of the Bible and provides an account of the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land. In this particular verse, the Israelites are on their journey, moving from one campsite to another.
Kibroth-hattaavah:Kibroth-hattaavah is mentioned earlier in Numbers 11:34-35. It was the place where the Israelites grumbled and complained against God and His provision. They had been dissatisfied with the manna God provided for their sustenance and craved meat. God sent quails as a response to their complaints but also sent a severe plague upon them, resulting in many deaths. Thus, Kibroth-hattaavah serves as a reminder of the consequences of discontentment and ungratefulness.
Hazeroth:After departing from Kibroth-hattaavah, the Israelites encamped at Hazeroth. Hazeroth is mentioned a few times in the book of Numbers (Numbers 11:35, Numbers 12:16). It is believed to be a desert region situated in the vicinity of Mount Sinai. It was at Hazeroth that Miriam and Aaron, Moses’ siblings, spoke against him, leading to Miriam being struck with leprosy and being isolated from the camp for seven days (Numbers 12:1-16).
