Listen to this article

“And they departed from Rithmah, and pitched in Rimmonparez.”

Numbers 33 is a chapter that recounts the Israelites’ journey from Egypt to the Promised Land, providing a detailed account of their various encampments along the way.

In this particular verse, we find a brief mention of two locations: Rithmah and Rimmonparez.

Rithmah:Rithmah was one of the encampments of the Israelites during their wilderness journey. It is believed to be located in the vicinity of modern‑day Wadi Murrah in the southern part of the Sinai Peninsula. Not much additional information is provided about this specific encampment in the biblical text.

Rimmonparez:This is the location where the Israelites pitched their camp after departing from Rithmah. Rimmonparez is also mentioned in Joshua 15:32, which describes it as a city in the territory of the tribe of Judah. However, the exact location of Rimmonparez is uncertain, and there is limited historical information available about this particular place.

While Numbers 33:19 does not offer significant theological or moral teachings, it serves as a geographical reference point in the narrative of the Israelites’ journey through the wilderness. It reminds us of the meticulous documentation of their travels, emphasizing the historical nature of the events described in the Book of Numbers.
