Listen to this article

“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee.”

Numbers 6:24 is part of what is commonly known as the "Aaronic Blessing" or the "Priestly Blessing." This blessing was given by God to Moses and Aaron for the priests to pronounce upon the Israelites. It was intended to confer God’s favour, protection, and peace upon the people.

Context:The book of Numbers is primarily concerned with the journey of the Israelites through the wilderness toward the Promised Land. In Numbers chapter 6, the focus is on the Nazirites, individuals who took a voluntary vow of consecration and set themselves apart for a specific period of time in devotion to God.

The Aaronic Blessing:In Numbers 6:22-27, God gives specific instructions to Moses regarding the blessing to be pronounced by Aaron and his sons, the priests, upon the people of Israel. This blessing was to be spoken with authority and as a means of invoking God’s favour and protection upon the Israelites.

The Lord bless thee:The first part of the blessing affirms the desire for God’s blessings upon the person being blessed. It is a petition for God’s favour, goodness, and provision in their life. God’s blessings can manifest in various ways, including physical, spiritual, and emotional well-being.

and keep thee:The second part of the blessing emphasizes God’s protection and care. It signifies God’s desire to watch over and preserve the person being blessed. It speaks of divine guidance, guarding from harm, and ensuring the person’s safety.

This verse highlights an important aspect of God’s nature and relationship with His people. It reveals His desire to bless and protect them. It also reflects God’s role as a shepherd, diligently watching over His flock.

The Aaronic Blessing is not limited to the context of ancient Israel. Today, it serves as a reminder of God’s continual desire to bless and keep His people. Christians often interpret this verse as a recognition of God’s grace and His commitment to watch over and protect His followers.

In summary, Numbers 6:24 (KJV) is a part of the Aaronic Blessing, which invokes God’s favour, provision, and protection upon His people. It is a powerful reminder of God’s care and His desire to bless those who seek Him.
