1 Chronicles 15:5

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“Of the sons of Kohath; Uriel the chief, and his brethren a hundred and twenty.”

1 Chronicles 15:5 (KJV)

Chronicles is a book in the Old Testament that focuses on the history of Israel, particularly the reign of King David.

In this specific verse, the author highlights the sons of Kohath, who were responsible for the sacred duties and carrying the articles of the Tabernacle.

Kohath and his sons:Kohath was one of the sons of Levi, who was a descendant of Jacob (Israel). The Levites were set apart for specific religious duties within the Israelite community. The sons of Kohath, mentioned in this verse, were responsible for carrying and caring for the holy items used in the worship of God.

Uriel the chief:Uriel is mentioned as the chief among the sons of Kohath. As the chief, he likely held a position of leadership and had authority over the other Levites from his family. This indicates the hierarchical structure within the Levitical priesthood.

The number 120:The verse specifies that there were a hundred and twenty brethren of Uriel. This number signifies the strength and size of the Levitical family serving in the Tabernacle. It also highlights the importance of having a significant number of individuals dedicated to the service of God.

Overall, this verse provides a glimpse into the organisation and responsibilities of the Levites, specifically the sons of Kohath, in the worship and service of God in the Tabernacle.

It emphasises the importance of order, leadership, and the commitment of a significant number of individuals to carry out the sacred duties entrusted to them.

It is worth noting that a more comprehensive study of the entire chapter and its surrounding context would provide a deeper understanding of the historical and theological significance of this verse.
