1 Chronicles 16:30

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.”

This verse is part of a psalm of thanksgiving that King David composed when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem.

In this particular verse, David calls upon all the earth to fear before God and acknowledges that the stability of the world is a result of God’s sovereignty.

Let’s explore the key themes and lessons we can derive from this verse:

Fear and Reverence for God:The verse begins with the exhortation to “fear before him.” The fear mentioned here is not a paralyzing terror but a reverential awe and deep respect for the Lord. It involves recognizing God’s power, majesty, and authority. This fear prompts us to approach Him with humility, honor, and obedience.

Universal Call to Worship:David extends the call to fear God to “all the earth.” This emphasizes that God’s lordship is not confined to a specific group or nation but extends to all people. It is an invitation for everyone, regardless of their background, to worship Him.

God’s Sovereignty:The verse also highlights God’s sovereignty over the world. The phrase “the world also shall be stable” suggests that God is in control of all things and that His sovereignty brings stability and order to the world.
