1 Chronicles 16:35

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

And say yee, Saue vs, O God of our saluation, and gather vs together, and deliuer vs from the heathen, that we may giue thanks to thy holy Name, and glory in thy praise. 1 Chronicles 16:35 (KJV)

The chapter of 1 Chronicles 16 records the joyous occasion when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem and placed in the tent that David had prepared. In this context David appoints Levites to minister before the Ark and to lead the people in worship and thanksgiving. Verse 35 belongs to a longer psalm of thanksgiving and praise that David composed for that celebration.

The prayer of the people asks God to “save us” and to “gather us together.” This gathering points to the restoration of unity among Israel, drawing the scattered Israelites back from surrounding nations and placing them under God’s protective care. The request for deliverance is not limited to physical rescue; it also embraces spiritual and emotional liberation, acknowledging that true safety comes from God alone.

The purpose of this plea for gathering and deliverance is to enable the people to give thanks to God’s holy name and to glory in His praise. Their desire to worship reflects a deep recognition of God’s goodness, faithfulness, and the gratitude owed to Him for His continual provision and salvation.

Reflective Questions: How have you experienced God’s salvation and deliverance in your own life? In what ways can you foster unity and support within your community of believers? How can you cultivate a heart of gratitude and offer sincere thanks to God in your daily life?

Take time to ponder these questions and consider how you can apply the lessons from 1 Chronicles 16:35 to your own walk with God, seeking both personal deliverance and communal unity while continually offering heartfelt thanks and praise to the Holy One.
