1 Chronicles 17:27

Posted on 18 May at 11:30

“Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever”

Context:To better understand the verse, it’s important to consider the context of the passage. In 1 Chronicles 17, King David desires to build a permanent temple for the Lord. However, God, through the prophet Nathan, informs David that he will not be the one to build the temple. Instead, God promises to establish a dynasty for David and build a house for his name through his offspring.

Verse:“Now therefore let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may be before thee for ever: for thou blessest, O Lord, and it shall be blessed forever” (1 Chronicles 17:27, KJV).

Acknowledging God’s Blessings:In this verse, David humbly requests God’s blessings upon the house of his servant (himself) and recognizes that any blessing received is a result of God’s grace. David acknowledges God as the source of all blessings, emphasizing that God blesses and those blessings endure forever.

Humility and Gratitude:David’s words reflect humility and gratitude towards God. He recognizes his position as a servant of the Lord and seeks God’s favor upon his house. Instead of claiming credit for his achievements or aspiring for personal glory, David acknowledges God’s sovereignty and the eternal nature of His blessings.

The House of David:Although David desired to build a physical temple for God, God promises to build a house (dynasty) for David instead. This promise extends beyond a physical structure and encompasses the establishment of David’s lineage, culminating in the birth of Jesus Christ, the ultimate fulfillment of God’s promise.

Eternal Blessings:David’s acknowledgment that God blesses and those blessings endure forever is a reminder of God’s faithfulness and His enduring covenant with His people. God’s blessings are not temporary but have eternal significance.
