1 Chronicles 18:9

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

Now when Tou king of Hamath heard how Dauid had smitten all the hoste of Hadarezer king of Zobah: 1 Chronicles 18:9 (KJV)

Historical Context: The events in 1 Chronicles 18 take place during King David’s reign, after he had consolidated his rule over Israel and established Jerusalem as the capital. David was a mighty warrior, and his military campaigns played a crucial role in establishing a secure and prosperous kingdom. This verse is part of a larger passage describing King David’s military victories and expansion of the kingdom of Israel. In this particular verse, we encounter the name “Tou,” the king of Hamath. Tou heard of David’s triumph over Hadadezer, the king of Zobah. The context suggests that David defeated Hadadezer and his forces in battle. This news reached Tou, and it underscores David’s expanding military prowess and dominance in the region.

God’s Faithfulness: Throughout David’s life, we witness God’s faithfulness in fulfilling His promises. From his humble beginnings as a shepherd, God elevated David to be the king of Israel and granted him victory over his enemies.

Divine Providence: The victory David achieved against Hadadezer and the subsequent news reaching Tou were not merely coincidences. They were part of God’s sovereign plan for establishing David’s kingdom and expanding his influence.

God’s Power: The military victories of King David were not solely the result of his own strength or skill but were ultimately attributed to God’s power. David recognized this truth and acknowledged God’s role in his successes.

Witness to Others: The news of David’s victories spread beyond the borders of Israel, reaching neighboring kingdoms such as Hamath.
