1 Chronicles 22:3

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

And Dauid prepared yron in abundance for the nailes for the doores of the gates, and for the ioynings, and brasse in abundance without weight; 1 Chronicles 22:3 (KJV)

Context: The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account of the reign of King David and the establishment of the kingdom of Israel. In this particular chapter, David is making preparations for the construction of the temple that will be built by his son Solomon.

David’s preparations: In verse 2 of this chapter, David commands to gather “strangers in the land of Israel” to work as masons to cut stones. In verse 2 of this chapter, David instructs the princes of Israel to conscript men to serve in the king’s work for the temple.

In verse 3, it mentions that David prepared iron and brass in abundance for the nails and joinings of the doors and gates of the temple.

Symbolic significance: The preparations made by David symbolize his commitment and dedication to the task of building the temple. The use of iron and brass implies strength and durability, suggesting that David wanted the temple to be a lasting and secure structure. By providing abundant materials, David demonstrated his desire to contribute significantly to the construction of the temple, even though it would be his son Solomon who would ultimately oversee its completion.

David’s heart for worship: David’s desire to build the temple stemmed from his love for God and his desire to provide a permanent dwelling place for the Ark of the Covenant. Although God did not allow David to build the temple himself because he was a man of war, David made extensive preparations and gathered resources for its construction, showing his devotion to God and his desire to honor Him through the temple.
