1 Chronicles 27:16

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

Furthermore, ouer the tribes of Israel: The Ruler of the Reubenites was Eliezer the sonne of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephatiah the sonne of Maachah. 1 Chronicles 27:16 (KJV)

This verse belongs to a chapter that records the organisation and administration of King David’s kingdom. Chapter 27 lists how David divided responsibilities among officials, tribal leaders, and other officers, showing a structured approach to governance.

The verse states: “Over the Reubenites was Eliezer the son of Zichri: over the Simeonites was Shephatiah the son of Maachah: over the Levites was Hashabiah the son of Kemuel: over the Aaronites was Zadok.” By naming the rulers of each tribe, the text highlights the principle of leadership and the importance of capable individuals overseeing distinct groups.

The division of duties demonstrates the order that David instituted. Each tribe received representation through a designated leader, ensuring that the affairs of the people were managed responsibly. This arrangement reflects a broader biblical theme of divine order, where God works through appointed leaders to fulfil His purposes. Throughout Scripture, God selects individuals for positions of authority, expecting them to govern with wisdom, integrity, and a heart for Him.

For believers today, the passage offers a lesson about the significance of leadership and the call to fulfill God‑given roles with diligence and faithfulness. It reminds us that God has a plan for His people and equips individuals to serve in various capacities. Whether in the church, the home, or the workplace, we are invited to exercise the stewardship entrusted to us, mirroring the orderly and purposeful leadership displayed in David’s administration.
