1 Chronicles 27:29

Posted on 18 May at 11:31

“And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai”

Passage:“And over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai” (1 Chronicles 27:29, KJV).

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that traces the genealogy of the Israelite people and provides an overview of their history from Adam to the time of King David. Chapter 27 specifically lists the divisions of the Israelite army and the leaders appointed over various administrative duties in David’s kingdom.

The Role of Shitrai and Shaphat:In verse 29, the passage mentions two individuals who were appointed to oversee the herds in different regions. Shitrai was responsible for the herds that fed in Sharon, a fertile plain in the coastal region of Israel, while Shaphat, the son of Adlai, was in charge of the herds in the valleys.

Lessons from the Passage:

  • Responsibility and Stewardship:The appointment of Shitrai and Shaphat highlights the importance of responsible stewardship. Their task was to care for the herds entrusted to them. As leaders, they were expected to manage and oversee the well-being of the animals under their care.
  • Different Roles and Assignments:The passage emphasizes that Shitrai was responsible for the herds in Sharon, while Shaphat oversaw the herds in the valleys. This reveals that in God’s kingdom, different individuals have different roles and assignments.
  • Attention to Detail:Caring for herds requires attention to detail. Shepherds must be vigilant and attentive to the needs of each animal, ensuring they are well-fed, protected, and healthy.
  • God’s Providence in Assignments:It is worth noting that Shitrai and Shaphat were appointed to their positions by King David. This suggests that their assignments were not based on personal ambition or self-promotion but were part of God’s providential plan for His people.

Application:

  • Faithful Stewardship:We should strive to be faithful stewards of the resources, talents, and responsibilities entrusted to us by God.
  • Embracing our Assignments:Rather than comparing ourselves to others or desiring different roles, we should embrace the assignments God has given us.
  • Diligence and Attention to Detail:Whatever tasks we are engaged in, we should approach them with diligence, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellence.

By doing so, we honor God and reflect His character in our work.

  • d. Trusting in God’s Providence:Recognize that God is in control and orchestrates the events of our lives according to His perfect plan.
