1 Chronicles 28:5

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“Of all my sons (for the LORD hath given me many sons), he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that traces the genealogy of Israel, focusing particularly on King David and his reign. In chapter 28, David addresses the assembly of Israel, announcing Solomon as his successor and the chosen one to build the temple for the Lord.

David’s Many Sons:In the opening phrase, David acknowledges that the Lord has blessed him with many sons. This highlights the fact that David had several children, but God’s choice fell upon Solomon to succeed him as king. God’s selection was not based on birthright or David’s personal preferences but on His divine wisdom.

God’s Choice:Despite having many sons, David emphasizes that God specifically chose Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord over Israel. This demonstrates the sovereignty of God in the selection of leaders and the fulfillment of His purposes. It also indicates that Solomon’s kingship was not merely a human appointment but a divine calling.

The Throne of the Kingdom of the Lord:Solomon was not just being appointed as a ruler over Israel; he was being designated to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the Lord. This phrase underscores that the kingdom of Israel was ultimately God’s kingdom. Solomon’s role as king was to govern the people according to God’s principles and lead them in righteousness.
