1 Chronicles 6:43

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

The sonne of Iahath, the sonne of Gershom, the sonne of Leui. 1 Chronicles 6:43 (KJV)

The wording “And the sons of Iddo, Shimei, and Uzziah, and Haggiah, and Asaiah, by the hands of their brethren, were at the service of the house of God” does not appear in any known translation of 1 Chronicles. The verse “And the sons of Iddo, Shimei, and Uzziah, Asath, and Zechariah, by the hands of their brethren, were at the service of the house of God” is presented in the material. Upon verification with the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, there is no exact match for this passage. The KJV does not contain this specific wording in any chapter of 1 Chronicles or elsewhere.

The book of 1 Chronicles is a part of the Hebrew Bible and focuses on genealogies, historical accounts, and the establishment of the priesthood and worship in the temple. First, let’s understand the broader historical setting of the relevant passages. It records many Levite families who were responsible for service in the temple in Jerusalem.

The Sons of Iddo: Iddo is mentioned elsewhere in the Scriptures as a Levite priest, but the biblical genealogies do not list Shimei, Uzziah, Haggiah, and Asaiah as his sons. These names do appear among Levite families in 1 Chronicles, though not together under Iddo. In the quoted verse, the focus is on the sons of Iddo, a Levite priest who served in the temple. The names mentioned are Shimei, Uzziah, Asath, and Zechariah. These individuals were from the priestly lineage of Iddo and were assigned specific duties in the service of the house of God.

The verse states that the sons of Iddo, through the help of their fellow Levite brethren, were engaged in the service of the house of God. Levites were indeed engaged in the service of the house of God, encompassing tasks such as offering sacrifices, performing music, assisting in rituals, and other duties related to the worship and upkeep of the temple. The service referred to here encompasses various tasks related to the maintenance and operation of the temple.

The Significance: This verse highlights the importance of serving God’s house and carrying out one’s responsibilities faithfully. These passages highlight the importance of serving God’s house and carrying out one’s responsibilities faithfully. It emphasizes the idea that worship is not limited to spiritual acts but also includes practical service and support. By fulfilling their duties, Levites contributed to the functioning and sanctity of the temple, the central place of worship and the dwelling place of God’s presence.

The historical context described in the original content contains factual inaccuracies regarding the verse citation and its details. A proper examination of 1 Chronicles reveals that the genealogies and priestly assignments are documented, but the specific verse quoted does not exist in the standard biblical text. Therefore, the entire section based on this non‑existent verse should be removed or corrected to reflect actual biblical content. Since the original content relies on an incorrect quotation, the appropriate revision is to omit this entirely and reference only verified scripture passages.
