Meaning

The word “suburbs” means the open land around a city, used for keeping livestock and growing food. These measured fields were not extra space; they were God’s practical provision. Because the Levites served the tabernacle and taught the law, they could not farm large estates. The suburbs gave them what they needed to live and care for their animals.
