1 Chronicles 7:40

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“All these were the children of Asher, heads of their father’s house, choice and mighty men of valor, chief of the princes. And the number throughout the genealogy of them that were apt to the war and to battle was twenty and six thousand men.”

Certainly! Here’s a Bible study on Context: The book of Chronicles provides a historical account of the genealogies, reigns, and activities of various tribes and families of Israel.

Chapter 7 focuses on the genealogy of the tribe of Manasseh, one of the twelve tribes of Israel.

In verse 40, we encounter a specific genealogical record related to the descendants of Asher.

Verse 40 (KJV):“All these were the children of Asher, heads of their father’s house, choice and mighty men of valor, chief of the princes. And the number throughout the genealogy of them that were apt to the war and to battle was twenty and six thousand men.”

The Tribe of Asher:Asher was one of the twelve sons of Jacob (Israel) and the tribe of Asher descended from him.

In this verse, the descendants of Asher are described as “choice and mighty men of valor, chief of the princes.” This implies that they were known for their bravery, leadership, and strength in battle.

Military Strength:The verse also mentions that the number of Asher’s descendants who were “apt to the war and to battle” was twenty‑six thousand men. This indicates that the tribe of Asher had a significant military strength and that they were skilled in warfare. It emphasizes their readiness and ability to defend themselves and fight for their people when needed.

Spiritual Application:While this verse primarily focuses on the genealogy and military strength of the tribe of Asher, we can draw some spiritual lessons from it. We can learn about the importance of being prepared for the battles we may face in our lives. Just as the tribe of Asher was known for their valor and readiness for war, as Christians, we are called to be spiritually prepared to face the challenges and spiritual battles we encounter. Ephesians 6:10-11 (NIV) says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” This passage reminds us to rely on God’s strength and to equip ourselves with the spiritual armor provided by Him. We should be prepared to stand firm in our faith, resist temptation, and fight against the spiritual forces that seek to undermine our relationship with God. In our spiritual battles, we need to cultivate virtues such as courage, faith, and perseverance. Just as the tribe of Asher demonstrated their valor, we should exhibit spiritual valor by standing up for truth, defending our faith, and remaining faithful to God in the face of opposition. Additionally, this verse also reminds us of the importance of community and unity. The descendants of Asher were united as a tribe, and they worked together to protect and defend their people. Similarly, as believers, we are part of the body of Christ, and we are called to support and encourage one another in our spiritual walk.

Conclusion:1 Chronicles 7:40 teaches us that preparedness, courage, and unity are timeless principles that apply both to ancient Israel and to our modern Christian lives.
