1 Chronicles 8:17

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And Zebadiah, and Meshullam, and Hezeki, and Heber, 1 Chronicles 8:17 (KJV)

The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that traces the genealogy of the tribes of Israel, particularly focusing on the descendants of Jacob and the establishment of the Davidic monarchy. Chapter 8 specifically focuses on the genealogy of the tribe of Benjamin, providing a list of names and families within the tribe.

Zebadiah was one of the descendants of Benjamin mentioned in this verse. The name “Zebadiah” means “gift of Yahweh” or “Yahweh has bestowed.” Although there isn’t much information about this specific individual in the Bible, it’s noteworthy that the name emphasizes the idea of God’s gift or blessing.

Meshullam is another descendant of Benjamin. The name “Meshullam” means “friend” or “peaceful.” In other parts of the Bible, there are several individuals named Meshullam, but it is unclear if this person is the same as any of them.

Hezeki is another descendant of Benjamin. Unfortunately, there is limited information available about this individual.

Heber, yet another descendant of Benjamin, is mentioned in this verse. The name “Heber” means “alliance” or “to associate.” In the Old Testament, Heber is also the name of the husband of Jael, who played a significant role in the defeat of the Canaanite general, Sisera (Judges 4:17-22).

Application:

Appreciation for God’s gifts: The name Zebadiah reminds us of God’s blessings and gifts in our lives. It prompts us to cultivate a heart of gratitude for the ways in which God has bestowed His goodness upon us. Take some time to reflect on the various gifts God has given you and express thankfulness for them.

Pursue peace and friendship: The name Meshullam carries the meaning of being a friend and seeking peace. As believers, we are called to be peacemakers and cultivate healthy relationships. Consider how you can contribute to peace and unity in your relationships and seek to be a friend to those around you.

Embrace alliances: The name Heber signifies an alliance or association. It reminds us of the importance of forming strong connections and partnerships with others. In the Christian context, we are encouraged to be part of a local church community and engage in fellowship with fellow believers. Reflect on the alliances or associations you have in your life and consider how you can strengthen those connections.

Remember, while these specific individuals may not have extensive narratives in the Bible, we can still draw valuable lessons from their names and the themes they represent.
