1 Chronicles 8:25

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

And Iphedeiah, and Penuel, the sonnes of Shashak, 1 Chronicles 8:25 (KJV)

Context: The book of 1 Chronicles is part of the Old Testament and provides a genealogical record of the Israelites. This verse is found within a list of names that trace the genealogy of Benjamin, one of the twelve sons of Jacob.

Significance: While this verse may appear to be a simple list of names, it holds significance within the larger narrative of the Bible. Genealogical records played a crucial role in ancient Israel, establishing ancestral lines, tribal identities, and inheritance rights.

Iphedeiah and Penuel: These two individuals, Iphedeiah and Penuel, are mentioned as sons of Shashak. The Bible does not provide much information about them beyond their names. It is likely they were important figures within their tribe or community, but specific roles or contributions are not recorded.

Historical Importance: The inclusion of genealogical records in the Bible emphasizes the historical nature of God’s work in the world. These lists demonstrate God’s faithfulness in preserving His people and fulfilling His promises through specific individuals and their descendants.

God’s Sovereignty: Even though Iphedeiah and Penuel are not prominent figures in biblical history, their mention in the genealogy signifies that God is interested in every individual within the broader scope of His plan. It serves as a reminder that God values and remembers every person, regardless of public recognition or status.

Ancestral Heritage: The genealogical records highlight the importance of ancestral heritage and familial connections. They remind us that we are part of a broader community and lineage. This can inspire us to explore our own family histories and appreciate the faith and experiences of our ancestors.

Remember, while this verse may seem less significant compared to other passages, every verse has its purpose and can contribute to our understanding of God’s plan and His interaction with humanity.
