1 Chronicles 8:30

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“And his firstborn son Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Nadab,”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that traces the genealogies of the people of Israel, particularly the descendants of Jacob’s son Benjamin. In chapter 8, the genealogy of the tribe of Benjamin is recorded.

Verse:“And his firstborn son Abdon, and Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Nadab,” (1 Chronicles 8:30, KJV)

Identification of individuals:This verse lists several individuals who were descendants of Benjamin. Abdon is mentioned as the firstborn son, followed by Zur, Kish, Baal, and Nadab.

Genealogical significance:The genealogical records were important in Israelite culture as they helped establish family lineages and tribal identities. These records were also significant for determining eligibility for certain priestly and leadership roles.

Further study:To gain a deeper understanding of the significance of genealogies and the tribe of Benjamin in biblical history, it is helpful to read the entire chapter of 1 Chronicles 8 and explore related passages. Consider studying the stories of individuals from the tribe of Benjamin, such as Saul, the first king of Israel, and the apostle Paul, who was from the tribe of Benjamin.

Remember, while genealogical records can provide valuable historical information, the primary focus of the Bible is on the redemptive work of God through Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is essential to approach genealogical passages with an understanding of their historical context and their broader connection to God’s plan of salvation.
