1 Chronicles 8:34

Posted on 18 May at 11:32

“And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal; and Meribbaal begat Micah.”

Context:The book of 1 Chronicles is a historical account that focuses on the lineage of the Israelites, particularly the genealogy of the twelve tribes of Israel.

In 1 Chronicles 8, the chapter lists the genealogy of the tribe of Benjamin, one of the twelve tribes of Israel. It mentions various individuals and their descendants, including Saul, the first king of Israel, and his son Jonathan.

The verse you mentioned, 1 Chronicles 8:34, highlights the son of Jonathan, named Meribbaal (also known as Mephibosheth).

Meribbaal (Mephibosheth):Meribbaal, or Mephibosheth, was the son of Jonathan and the grandson of King Saul. His story is also mentioned in the book of 2 Samuel. When King Saul and Jonathan died in battle, a nurse took Meribbaal and fled, but she dropped him, resulting in a lifelong disability in his feet (2 Samuel 4:4). Despite his physical condition, he later found favour with King David.

Micah:According to 1 Chronicles 8:34, Meribbaal (Mephibosheth) became the father of Micah. Micah is not mentioned extensively in the Bible, so there isn’t much known about him or his contributions.

This verse primarily serves as a link in the genealogy of the tribe of Benjamin, tracing the descendants of Jonathan through his son Meribbaal (Mephibosheth) to his son Micah. It provides a glimpse into the ancestral line of the tribe and highlights some of the key figures from the history of Israel.
