1 Corinthians 1:5

That in euery thing yee are enriched by him, in all vtterance, and in all knowledge: 1 Corinthians 1:5 (KJV)

The book of 1 Corinthians was written by the Apostle Paul to address various issues and challenges faced by the church in Corinth. In the opening of the letter, Paul expresses gratitude to God for the Corinthians and the grace they have received through Jesus Christ. Paul begins by saying, “I thank my God always concerning you, for the grace of God which is given you in Christ Jesus.” This shows Paul’s heart of gratitude and his continuous thanksgiving to God. It also emphasizes the personal relationship between Paul and God. Gratitude is an important aspect of the Christian life, and Paul’s example encourages us to be thankful for the work of God in the lives of others.

Paul acknowledges that the Corinthians have received the grace of God. Grace refers to God’s unmerited favour and blessings bestowed upon humanity, particularly through Jesus Christ. It is by God’s grace that we are saved, forgiven, and empowered to live a life pleasing to Him. In this verse, Paul specifically highlights that the Corinthians have received this grace in Christ Jesus. The grace mentioned here is given in Christ Jesus. Jesus is the channel through which God’s grace is made available to us. It is through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection that we can receive God’s grace. Jesus is the embodiment of God’s love and mercy, and through Him, we have access to the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life.

This verse encourages us to reflect on the grace of God in our lives and express gratitude to Him. It reminds us that the grace we have received is not based on our own efforts or merit but is a gift from God. It also points us to Jesus Christ as the source of this grace. As we contemplate the grace we have received, it should lead us to a deeper appreciation for God’s love, a humble attitude, and a desire to share His grace with others.
