1 Corinthians 10:13

Listen to this article

“There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.”

Context:The Apostle Paul wrote the first letter to the Corinthians, addressing various issues and concerns within the Corinthian church. In this specific passage, Paul is discussing the topic of idolatry and warning the Corinthians about the dangers of falling into temptation.

No unique temptation:Paul begins by reassuring the Corinthians that the temptations they face are not uncommon or unique to them. Every person faces trials and temptations in their lives, and the Corinthians were no exception. This reminds us that we are not alone in our struggles and that others have faced similar challenges.

God is faithful:Despite the temptations we face, Paul emphasizes the faithfulness of God. The faithfulness of God is a central theme throughout the Bible. Here, Paul assures the Corinthians that God can be trusted to keep His promises and provide for His people in times of temptation and difficulty.

Temptation within our limits:Paul declares that God will not allow His people to be tempted beyond what they are able to bear. This means that God knows our limits and will not allow us to be overwhelmed by temptation. He understands our strengths and weaknesses and will not permit trials that are beyond our capacity to endure.

A way of escape:Paul continues by stating that God provides a way to escape along with the temptation. In other words, when we face temptations, God also provides a way out or a means of resisting and overcoming them. This could be through His Word, the power of the Holy Spirit, the support of fellow believers, or various other means. God’s desire is not for us to succumb to temptation but to give us the strength and resources to resist and overcome it.

Ability to bear it:The verse concludes by stating that God’s ultimate purpose is to enable His people to bear the temptations they face. Through His faithfulness and the provision of a way of escape, God equips us to endure trials and resist temptations, thus developing our character and strengthening our faith.

Overall, 1 Corinthians 10:13 provides encouragement and assurance that we are not alone in our struggles. God is faithful and provides a way for us to resist and overcome temptation. This verse reminds us of God’s love, care, and provision in our lives, and it encourages us to rely on Him in times of difficulty.
