1 John 3:22

Listen to this article

“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight”

Context:Before delving into the specific verse, it’s essential to understand the broader context of the book of 1 John. The epistle of 1 John was written by the apostle John, likely in the late first century AD. John wrote this letter to a group of believers to address various issues, including false teachings and the importance of genuine faith in Jesus Christ.

Verse:“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him because we keep his commandments and do those things that are pleasing in his sight” (1 John 3:22, KJV).

Relationship with God:The verse implies that maintaining a close relationship with God is crucial for effective prayer. Prayer is not merely a one-sided conversation, but a dialogue with our Heavenly Father. When we align ourselves with His will by obeying His commandments, we can have confidence that He will hear and answer our prayers.

Alignment with God’s Will:It’s important to note that this verse does not guarantee that we will receive everything we ask for, regardless of our motives or desires. The promise of answered prayer is conditioned upon our obedience and alignment with God’s will. As we grow in our relationship with Him, our desires become aligned with His desires, and our prayers become more in accordance with His perfect will.

Pleasing God:The verse also emphasizes the importance of living a life that is pleasing in God’s sight. Our obedience to His commandments is an expression of our love for Him (1 John 5:3). When we seek to honor God with our actions and attitudes, our prayers are more likely to be aligned with His purposes and receive His favorable response.

Trust and Faith:This verse encourages believers to trust in God’s faithfulness. As we maintain a faithful relationship with Him, living in obedience and seeking to please Him, we can have confidence that He will respond to our prayers according to His wisdom and goodness.
