And ye know that hee was manifested to take away our sinnes, and in him is no sinne. 1 John 3:5 (KJV)

Let us dive into a Bible study on 1 John 3:5, using the King James Version (KJV) translation. The study focuses on the opening words of 1 John 3:1‑10, often called the “love chapter,” which emphasize the love of God and the transformation that should occur in believers. This passage highlights that those who love God should live in a way that reflects God’s love. It presents three key elements: (1) the love of God is demonstrated by the sacrifice of Jesus; (2) believers are called to love one another; and (3) the world’s love for self is opposed to God’s love.

Explanation: “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins.” John reminds the readers that they are aware of Jesus’ purpose in coming into the world. The word “manifested” refers to Jesus’ incarnation and earthly ministry. Jesus was revealed in human form to fulfil a specific mission—to take away our sins. This emphasizes the redemptive work of Christ on the cross, where He offered Himself as a sacrifice for the forgiveness of sins. “And in him is no sin” stresses the sinlessness of Jesus. Unlike all humanity, Jesus was without sin, a necessary condition for Him to be the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29).

Implications and Application:

Redemption from Sin – The verse highlights Jesus’ purpose in His earthly ministry—to take away our sins. Through His sacrificial death and resurrection, He provides the means for our redemption and calls us to acknowledge our need for a Savior.

Assurance of Jesus’ Sinlessness – The affirmation that “in him is no sin” confirms Jesus’ deity and sinlessness, giving believers confidence in Him as the perfect Lamb who can forgive and reconcile us to God.

Living in Light of Jesus’ Sinlessness – Knowing that Jesus was without sin challenges us to pursue righteousness and holiness, seeking to obey God’s commands with the help of the Holy Spirit.

Sharing the Gospel – Understanding the purpose of Jesus’ manifestation encourages us to share the message of salvation, reminding others of the need for a Savior and the solution offered on the cross.
